Question of the Week:
In response to a conversation I had at Bullhorn Engage, a recent question posed was about the best tips for running a recruitment process concurrently with a client. This scenario typically arises when a recruiter attempts to manage a permanent role but is unable to secure exclusivity or full control over the process. In such cases, the likelihood of successfully filling the role is often low, as clients are likely to favour candidates with no recruitment fees attached. The recruiter must then work harder to present candidates who are superior to the ones the client is sourcing independently.
One key piece of advice in this scenario is to seek the client’s commitment to interviewing the recruiter’s top two candidates, ensuring these candidates are given a fair opportunity despite the competing process. Additionally, rather than posting a job ad, recruiters should leverage their own databases and networks to find candidates the client may have missed. Furthermore, providing extra documentation such as reference checks, test results, and personal interview notes can help build credibility for the candidates, making them stand out over the client’s candidates. While this strategy does not guarantee success, it greatly improves the recruiter’s chances of securing an interview for their candidates, thus justifying the recruitment fee at the end of the process.
